Blink-182 Will Now Be Headlining Coachella Weekend 2 After Frank Ocean Sucked So Bad During Weekend 1
Frank Ocean is one of those guys who I know is incredibly famous and popular, but I could not tell you one of his songs or anything about him. Well turns out he's one of those weirdos who drops an album and then hibernates underground for 10 years so when they come back to Earth everyone calls them a genius and revolutionary. So it was big news when Mr. Ocean was booked to headline Coachella, and it went about as shitty as it could go:
Variety - Frank Ocean will not be performing his scheduled headlining slot at Coachella this Sunday, a rep for the singer confirms to Variety. A source close to the situation says his spot will be taken by Blink-182.
The statement reads: “Frank Ocean will not be performing at weekend 2 of Coachella.
“After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1. Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity.
While recordings of the concert — which was not livestreamed, unlike most other sets during the festival — show that he performed innovative new arrangements of several of his songs, overall, the energy was low; he and the band were obscured by a battery of people walking in a circle around the stage (a revision of the original plan to have him surrounded by ice skaters); and the pacing was bizarre: a seemingly random DJ set was dropped into the the middle, leading many fans to think his performance was over. It also started an hour late, which sources say was due to the last-minute production change.
It's very funny that he is blaming his shitty performance on a fake injury he got "on festival grounds". I love it and will be stealing that for myself to use next time I have a shitty blog day, gonna blame the bad conditions at Barstool HQ. There's a legit pothole in the middle of our office that people break their foot on every day. I wish I had a picture, but whatever size you're imagining, multiply it by 3.
But when one door closes, another opens, so Coachella called in the big dogs...
Last weekend blink played a surprise, last minute set and burnt the place down. Their enthusiasm was at record highs and Tom sounded incredible. So much so that they have now gone from breaking up for 8 and a half years to headlining Coachella like they didn't miss a beat. Couldn't be happier for the fellas and can't wait to see what songs they add into their 10/10 set from last weekend.
