LET THE GIRLS PLAY: We Had A Bench Clearing Brawl At The Women's Division 3A World Hockey Championships Between Romania And Bulgaria
Everybody knows there's no love lost when you roll the puck out and put the Romanian and Bulgarian national women's hockey teams out on a sheet of ice together. Two teams that absolutely despise each other. A storied rivalry that goes back decades ago. You look at these rosters and you'll see some of the same last names from the historic brawl between these teams at the '76 junior goodwill games. A lot of the players from those teams now have daughters on the national team, and they're carrying on the tradition of beating the everliving piss out of each other every time these two teams play.
Now when you see the score here, obviously Romania just got done speed bagging Bulgaria. A 10-2 final. That's a colossal ass whooping. But as the late great philosopher Doug Glatt once said, "if you can't beat 'em, then beat 'em up". And clearly that's the mantra for the Bulgarian women's national team. You want to run up the score on them? That's fine. Just as long as you know you're not getting off that ice without taking a few gloved fists to the cage. 11 on Bulgaria was an absolute demon. She came flying in there looking to wreak havoc from the get go. The biggest, baddest mother fucker on that ice. 11 on Romania was also a unit. Need to see those two menaces square up at center ice the next time they play. Like Bob Probert vs Tie Domi in their prime.
554 penalty minutes. I don't even know how that's possible. I'm not a math guy but I guess the numbers start to stack up here.
The way I see it, we've got no blood so no foul here. Let the girls play. It's not a true Romania vs Bulgaria women's game unless it ends up a bench clearing brawl. Put the whistles away, stripes.
