Russell Westbrook Got His Revenge Against The Lakers And As Expected, Immediately Started Talking Shit After The Game
Andrew D. Bernstein. Getty Images.By now I'm sure you've heard that the Lakers once again lost in the Battle of LA to the Clippers. This isn't surprising as it is now the 11th consecutive loss the Lakers have suffered facing their cross-town rival. I mean it's been a bloodbath since December 20, 2020

Sure the Lakers may have that bubble ring, but when it comes to these two teams, it's pretty clear which one has been running LA for the last 3 seasons. This must be wild for Clippers fans who have spent their entire lives being the little brother, but now the little brother is all grown up and suddenly the big brother find himself in a bit of trouble. Considering the Clippers also didn't have Paul George, that's certainly not the best look. It's even worse when LeBron decides to cry about having to play a B2B. Grow up.
It was also a night for revenge, curtesy of Russell Westbrook. Everyone knows that man thrives off spite, and after the game AD let us in on what the Lakers gameplan was
In theory, not a terrible idea I guess. The only issue here was the execution
Not a huge line for Russ, but he did finish 6-12 (2-4) from the floor. I'm not a huge math guy, but 50/50% seems pretty good. Westbrook only played 20 minutes and his 12 FGA were the 3rd most on the team, but that's just a guy who took what the defense gave him and made them play. I don't think anyone would have been surprised if Russ went a little crazy in this game because he's a basketball psycho, but he played in control and didn't really force things.
As I blogged yesterday, this has been the norm for Westrook as of late. Over his last 8 games, Russ is shooting 52.9/39.4% from the floor, so I'm curious why that was the Lakers gameplan. Have they not been paying attention? Russ is currently in one of those good stretches offensively. It seems like they also had the same approach for Norm Powell, and that didn't really work either considering he went 8-15 for 27 points off the bench too.
I just know Westbrook talked all sorts of shit in the locker room.

I would love to see what his texts look like this morning, because let's be honest, the Lakers tried to blame him for all their problems. He was the scapegoat whether that was fair or not. So to now go to the Clippers and shove it right in LeBron's face to the point where now they may end up in the Play In/miss the playoffs all while playing well is poetic justice.
The reward for this win is now the Clippers draw the Suns in the first round, so that's maybe not great. The good news is things are still fluid over these final 2 games, because I imagine all the teams (LAC/GS/LAL) would prefer that 6 spot. Other than that, you're either in the Play In or you get a date with a healthy Kevin Durant. Good luck!
