'Maybe I Don't Do A Great Job Of Kissing The Media's Ass' - Dan Hurley, Delivering A Masterclass In Shit Talking After Becoming A National Champ
I wanted to talk about Dan Hurley here quick because I hate that I don't hate Dan Hurley. I'm sure if he keeps winning at UConn I'll find it quite easy, but the Hurley story itself is fairly remarkable. You can say he has typical little brother syndrome. He was never as good of a point guard as his older brother - like the way it should be. Even though he played at Seton Hall, Bobby was an All-American. He was never viewed as good of a coach as his dad - you know, the guy who saved St. Anthony's and dominated high school basketball. He was the guy at the center of the Rico vs Woj one-sided rivalry, so at least he had that going for him.
So does him talking shit about the Big East, the UConn blue blood argument, the calling his shot and everything else seem petty? Yes. But that's because that's all he knows. I mean, hey, hand up. I thought Hurley was a good hire but wondered if he'd be national title good. UConn was in a weird spot. They were in the AAC. They had the title run in 2014 then missed a ton of Tournaments and didn't have any momentum.
As for UConn going forward - they are likely going to be preseason number 1 next year. They'll lose Jordan Hawkins for sure - that dude is going to be a top-20 pick. I love his game and think it translates to the NBA. The question will be who else do they lose. I've seen Clingan be talked about as a first round pick. But then you see this from Andre Jackson and think they might try to run it back:
I still don't know how long it'll be for a team to go back-to-back mostly because that Florida team was so ridiculous. But NIL helps keeps guys around now. All I know is this is about Dan Hurley. He earned the right to talk shit and he did just that last night.
