Orioles' Owner John Angelos Sucks The Air Out Of Baltimore After Their Opening Day Win When He Pointed Out The Challenges Of Extending The Orioles Young Stars

This is what I meant when I said I dont want this to turn into a Washington R-words/Football Team/ Commanders situation. STOP TALKING!!!! The Orioles had just held on to a thrilling 10-9 win over the Red Sox in which we saw Adley Rutschman put on a historic performance....and this is what you want to do? You want to completely suck the air out of the city and the fanbase? Because that is exactly what you did.

Owners of major sports teams love nothing more than telling people they are small market teams. You know who is technically a "small market"? San Diego who spent 56 BILLION DOLLARS. Angelos just a few weeks back said he wants to operate like Cleveland does. You know what Cleveland just did? EXTEND A YOUNG STAR WITH A CONTRACT FOR OVER $100 MILLION JOHN!!!

The only challenges this rich owners have is how to convince the fanbase that they CAN'T spend money....every owner can spend money. It comes down to if they want to. So this "challenge of being a small market team" is a bullshit excuse that everyone sees right through. The Orioles can extend their young players, they 100% can. They have the money. They were the 4th most profitable team in baseball last year. Saying they can't is just ignorant and a flat out lie. And his quote about "they're going to do what they can within the system they're in."

MY BROTHER IT IS YOUR MONEY THEY ARE SPENDING! YOU'RE THE SYSTEM! You literally are the one who decides this "system" and if they can spend money. Maybe if you and your brother weren't suing each other and fighting all off-season you could have had some extension talks with your young guns! For him to say this mere minutes after Adley has his performance, what a gut kick.

And how about this stunt Angelos pulled? Remember back on MLK Jr Day when John Angelos called a press conference in the warehouse….invited reporters….started talking about baseball….and then when he asked for questions and someone asked him about the finances and future of the Orioles he said it was inappropriate to talk baseball on MLK Jr Day? Remember? I remember.

https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3452369/orioles-ceo-john-angelos-scheduled-a-press-conference-on-mlk-day…and-then-refused-to-take-questions-from-reporters-because-it-is-mlk-day

He went on to say that he would open up the books to any reporter who wanted to see them. Then in Spring Training he was asked again and he said he would show everyone the books before Spring Training was over. We're into the regular season now and nothing has been shown. So yesterday when a local radio show asked Angelos if he still plans to do that he pulled the okie doke and started throwing shade at the Baltimore Sun.

He basically said "you show me yours and I'll show you mine." Again….YOU'RE THE ONE WHO SAID YOU WOULD SHOW THE BOOKS!!!! The more he talks the more you realize why he hadn't spoken publicly in a few years before his press conference a few months back. It's incredible. It's a shame too because his father actually was a good owner and now gets a bad rap.

I hope we get to the point where MLB is forced to step in and stop these guys from talking and makes them sell. It's a joke that 24 minutes after Adley went 5/5 Angelos came out and basically said "HE COULD BE IN PINSTRIPES OR DODGER BLUE!". The guy with the checkbook in his hand is like "listen guys, I know we were top 5 in profits last year but I don't know if we can extend our young guys." See…you can extend them because you have the checkbook, the bank account the pen. My brother, just stop talking and let the baseball guys do their job. Sign the checks when they come through and let's move on.

This is like going out to eat and before you order you're worried about how much the whole dinner is going to be. Let's enjoy this ride, we're literally 1 game into the season. This is a good baseball team with a ton of good prospects. No you can't pay all of them but I would think and hope the front office realizes what they have here and will start extension talks quick. Like now. Like this second. And for the love of god either sack up and sell the team or let Mike Elias do what he was hired to do and let him put a winning club on the field for years to come. Just take that damn foot out of your mouth, John.

This is just so frustrating because for the first time in years the Orioles have a competitive team with a great product on the team and all this guy keeps doing is opening his mouth and starting shit with dumb comments. He's lucky he has had Dan Snyder down the road for 20 years or he'd catch a lot more flack.
