Golf Legend David Feherty Is A Gunsmith And Made Me A Rifle That Is Fuckin Sick

A few months ago, ZBT has the chance to interview David Feherity. We talked about a bunch of different stuff. We talked about his association with the LIV Golf tour which is funded by the Saudis and how that married with his organization that helps veterans across the country.

It was a great conversation but I was shocked when he told me that he was a gunsmith. If David had a country accent, I wouldn't have been shocked. If he looked like someone from my hometown, I wouldn't be shocked. But a guy who has made his fame both golfing and commentating on golf while also having an Irish accent, well, I was shocked he's a gunsmith or rifle maker as he says.

I asked him about the types of weapons he made and he said mostly rifles. I'll be honest, when he said that, I was thinking of WWII-era weapons and shit like that. In my mind, I had pictured a wooden stock with a bayonet fixed to the muzzle and the smell of fresh stain seeping from the vintage-style weapon that was made anew and improved. Nope. That's not what it was.

About three weeks ago, I got a text from David that my gun was done. We hadn't texted a few times since the interview so the weapon was FARRR from my mind. In fact, I had completely forgotten about the offer he made to me at the end of our interview. It was done in passing and even at the time, I knew it was just a joke until it wasn't. In his new text, he simply said that the gun was not finished and he needed a Gun Shop to send it to. Again, I was shocked.

In his following texts, he told me about the specs of the weapon and I honestly had no idea what he meant. I know a good bit about the military weapons that I was issued and some about the weapons I wasn't issued. Hunting or recreational weapons, however, are a world that I've never personally lived in so it was a new venture and one that I'm pretty amped about.

I've been looking into the different elements of this gun, its capabilities, and the impressive distances it can shoot. From what I've read, the maximum effective range is about 1800-2200 meters depending on what site you are reading. I read most of them. Either way, that's a weapon that will reach out and touch something with great accuracy and violence. It holds tight enough groups to be a marksmanship weapon and the power to take down large game. I'll give all that a try soon.

Credit to me for being a Marine and admitting that I don't know everything about every gun in the world. Takes a big man to do that. Anyway, I'll document when I take this big bitch out on the range. Can't wait to see, feel, and smell the firing line again. Now I just need to find a good scope or optic to dial in.

Anyway, here's Wonderwall.
