'It's Divine Providence That I'm Here' - Ed Cooley Didn't Just Stab Providence In The Back, He Twisted The Knife And Spit In Their Face
I had to look at this quote no less than 432 times to 1) make sure it said what said and 2) make sure this was actually Johnny Fanta. Both are true. Both show that Ed Cooley is not Providence through and through. He's turning into a heel. He could have just thanked Providence, explained he felt like he had to leave. People would still be pissed and rightfully so. It's every fans right to be pissed at something.
Instead he said it's 'Divine Providence that he's here' while doing his introductory press conference at Georgetown. Jesus. That dude twisted the knife he stabbed in their back and spit in their face while doing so. He could have said anything else. Ed Cooley is a smart man and calculated man. He knew saying Divine Providence would twist the knife.
This ain't going anywhere any time soon. The fact Cooley was hired and did the press conference during this week is only going to heighten it all. Games don't start until tomorrow night. The Big East is being talked about more than ever - including when Nova won 2 titles recently. Whether it's Pitino, three teams in the Sweet 16 and now this, the Big East is going to be Bloodsport next year. I love it. Fuck all this nice guy stuff, get back to hating each other.
All I know is this needs to happen:
Providence fans are batshit crazy. It's not like they have football season to distract them. It's basketball year round. It's going to be fuck Ed Cooley for an entire year. The Dunk (we don't call it the new name) is going to be arguably the greatest environment for a game all of next season when Georgetown comes. Providence fans are going to have like 8 months to sit on this move, this quote and everything here to prep for it.
Again, it's one thing to leave. It's another to be the first to leave for another Big East school. It's another to turn heel during it. It's another to be accused of recruiting for Georgetown while you prepped for an NCAA Tournament game. Divine Providence.
