Numbers Never Lie - Good Seeds Don't Matter, Only What You're Ranked In The Preseason

That headline is a bit of hyperbole. Sue me. But it's starting to become true. Seeds don't matter apparently. It's just becoming true based on that stat above. Why?

That happened. I talked about that KenPom stat a bunch of times in previews and what not. But I thought Marquette would still get to the Sweet 16, even if I took MSU +2.5 in this game. Assumed their PnR would match Michigan State's. The difference was Tyler Kolek, the Big East POY was brutal. He just didn't have a good game. Walker completely outplayed him.

And now we get the Tom Izzo in March story ... again. This stat moves to 2-0 by the way with Purdue already losing. This isn't even a great Michigan State team. They are mostly anonymous. A team who brought back a bunch of guys from last year who played Duke tight in the 2nd round. But they have defended their ass off today and held Marquette to 60 points. Tough to argue against that.

And now the East region is a complete clusterfuck. You either have FDU or FAU joining Tennessee, Kansas State and Michigan State in MSG. Sure. That makes sense. This region was wide open from the beginning and even more so now. A 3 and 4 seed advanced as dogs this weekend.

Now, sure, things get weird. But if you're a complete overachiever in the regular season just might as well cross Final Four off the list. Numbers never lie.
