Tony DeAngelo Is On A Quest To Make Sure Everybody In The NHL Is Wearing Their Cup Properly
Listen. Tony DeAngelo is a pretty gutless player. You'll get no argument from me on that one. He's not exactly what you'd consider to be a "high character" guy. So the fact that he'd have no qualms with obliterating another dude in the nuts shouldn't come as a shock to anybody.
But I've said this once before and I'll say it again--a cup check like that should be treated similarly to how they assess double-minors for high sticking. You can catch another guy in the face with your stick and if there's no blood, it's only 2-minutes. Bleeding and it's 4. It's not exactly arbitrary, but there have certainly been worse high-sticks that haven't drawn blood than ones that have. So when it comes to the cup check, I think there should be a similar set of guidelines. If you spear a dude in the nuts and he's wearing a cup, then it should be a 5-minute major plus a game misconduct. But if you spear a dude in the nuts and it turns out that he isn't wearing a cup? Well in that case I think the cup check was justified and it should just result in a 2-minute minor penalty.
I'm not saying I agree with it. I'm not saying I condone the behavior. But if you're going to cup check a guy and turns out he's not wearing a cup? I think you should catch a little break in that scenario. So we'd need someone to reach down Corey Perry's pants and figure out if he's got a cup on or not. At the very least it should determine whether or not Tony DeAngelo has a $5000 fine and suspension coming his way or not.
Sidenote: I know Corey Perry is the "worm" and everything but it might help Tony DeAngelo to have a little more respect for a dude who is a Stanley Cup, Rocket Richard and Hart Trophy winner.
Sidenote #2: The Flyers know their season is over. They know the GM already threw in the towel and is on vacation for the rest of the year. So be prepared for plenty more tomfoolery from this shit dick roster as they close out the season. Team is in full "DGAF" mode.
