You Can Stop The Race Now, Notre Dame's Pat Kavanagh Has Already Locked Up The Celly Of The Year

Some of the best songs to ever be performed are actually covers. "All Along The Watchtower" was a Bob Dylan song before Jimi Hendrix made it his own. "Respect" was an Otis Redding song before Aretha Franklin tore the house down with her own version. "Atlantic City" is a Bruce Springsteen song, but that doesn't mean that the version by The Band can't go infinitely harder.

The fact of the matter here is just because you copy something doesn't mean that you can't make it equally as awesome. So the fact that Pat Kavanagh took this celebration from Teemu Selanne breaking the NHL rookie goal scoring record doesn't take away from it's radness in any way whatsoever.

In fact, it makes it even cooler. Because if you want to become the best, you need to learn from all the greats who came before you. You need to be a student of the game. Study what made others so great and have the ability to replicate it yourself. The fact that Pat Kavanagh not only knew about the Teemu Selanne celly but also knew the exact perfect time to break it out himself? That's when you know we're dealing with a Celly Demon.

This wasn't just some random goal scored against Marquette in February. This was a top 10 matchup between Notre Dame and Maryland. Two teams with National Championship aspirations. A couple of elite programs who were battling all afternoon. Back and forth game on the road in College Park. His younger brother Chris had just sent the game to overtime with this outrageous bucket.

Filthy goal from a filthy player. But then in triple OT, it was time for big bro to send everybody home.

The moment. The goal. The celebration. Everything about that was pure perfection. I don't care who you are or what you say, that right there is the Celly of the Year. Still plenty of sports left to be played this year but there's nothing topping that. All hail King Kavanagh.
