ALEXA GRASSO SHOCKS THE WORLD AND SUBMITS VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO TO BECOME THE NEW FLYWEIGHT CHAMP

OH MY GOD! ALEXA GRASSO IS THE NEW UFC WOMEN'S FLYWEIGHT CHAMPION! THE SHEVCHENKO REIGN IS OVER!

I don't know if I've ever seen someone take a back quite as fast as Alexa Grasso did right there. She was definitely invigorated and fired up in the fourth round after clearly dropping the second and third, and showed that one small mistake is all it takes, even for the best in the world!

Valentina threw that wild spin kick (in a fight she was clearly winning and completely taking over after the first round), got caught before you could say "Bullet", and then choked out to take her first loss as champion - breaking her nine-fight win streak.

Grasso is now only the third woman to defeat Shevchenko in her professional career, and second in the UFC (after Amanda Nunes and Liz Carmouche) and becomes the first Mexican woman in history to hold UFC gold after that upset.

It wasn't ALL Valentina leading up to that submission, however - Grasso looked great in the first round, winning it with her striking in my eyes, and landed on Valentina plenty throughout. Plus, her cardio looked great from start to finish and the second wind she caught in Round 4 was spectacular. It seemed like her takedown defense only improved by the end of the bout.

They'll run this one back immediately, and Shevchenko will probably still be the favorite, but make no mistake about it - Grasso earned this title. Tonight wasn't a fluke - it was a position and move she specifically trained for apparently, and she is undoubtedly one of the best in the world.

Up next: the return of Jon Jones. I bet on him via decision on the Barstool Sportsbook, but I still hope Gane KOs him. Would be the perfect end to this card.
