Did Vandy Blow The Whistle on Tennessee Coach Tony Vitello?

I started getting DMs last night on Twitter that brash Tennessee Head Coach Tony Vitello was about to get in trouble for recruiting violations.

Those rumors proved true yesterday afternoon.

While Tennessee was extremely vague in this statement, word on the street is the violations involve SS Maui Ahona a projected MLB 1st Round Pick who transferred from Kansas after hitting .395 last season. Ahona is not eligible yet and has been sitting out the season so far.

Let me be transparent. I am not reporting facts just what I am hearing from social media. The rumors are that Vitello went to Lawrence, Kansas to recruit Ahona before he entered the transfer portal. I am also hearing that Vandy blew the whistle (see what I did there?) on Vitello.

This all does make sense and Tennessee is clearly taking this seriously with the self imposed suspension. Will Ahona be ruled eligible soon? The Vols sure could use him and Vitello back in the dugout if they are going to sniff anywhere near their historic 2022 season when they went 53-7 and 25-5 in SEC.

Say what you will about Vitello but the man knows how to win baseball games. He has done an unbelievable job turning Tennessee into a national power without a ton of tradition. He is as close to a wrestling heel as I have seen in college baseball.

I hope Tony is back in the dugout sooner than later. He is pretty damn good at growing the game whether you love or hate him.
