The Three College Baseball Series You Should Be Watching This Weekend

The second weekend of the college baseball season is upon us and there are some intriguing series to keep a close eye on. Let's take a look at the top three.

1) #12 North Carolina at #11 East Carolina

The Jungle will be absolutely rockin' in Greenville for this in state matchup. Being apart of the AAC, East Carolina will relish the opportunity to knock off the Tar Heels. UNC is 4-1 against weak competition and led by All American CF Vance Honeycutt who is a stud. East Carolina C Justin Wilcoxen is only hitting .526 with 2 HRs already in the season for the 3-1 Pirates.

2) #13 Maryland at #4 Ole Miss

Ole Miss got bad news on Tuesday when it was announced that Ace Hunter Elliott was being shut down with fore arm soreness. Those are scary words for a young pitcher. How will the Rebels fare without their best pitcher? Elliott was MASSIVE in the National Title Run last year. Jack Dougherty will start on Friday in his place.

Maryland was the best team in the Big 10 last year but comes in 2-2. How will they handle playing in front of 10,000 fans? Should be a fun series in Oxford.

3) #17 UCLA at #10 Vandy

The Vandy Whistler is alive and well proving that I am not a murderer. As for the actual baseball, this should be a solid series in Nashville. Vandy went 2-1 in the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington with wins over Oklahoma State and Texas with a loss to TCU. They did drop a mid week game to Central Arkansas and are 3-2 overall. CF Enrique Bradfield is a Juan Pierre clone and wreaks havoc on the base paths.

UCLA is 4-0 and has outscored Omaha and Pepperdine by a whopping 58-4. While they have not beaten anybody good, this is still impressive. RF JonJon Vaughns is ripping the cover off the baseball hitting .556 with 3 homers already. I gotta respect them taking the early season trip to Nashville to play tough competition.
