A Washington Baseball Player Was Ejected From A Game For 'Excessive Celebration' And It Might Be The Worst Call In Baseball History

What you see in the video above is Washington first baseman Will Simpson hitting a game-tying home run in the Huskies' opening series against Santa Clara last weekend. Simpson hits the homer and then does what I would consider a pretty mild celebration, giving his bat a little flip and then underlining the "Washington" across his chest with his hand towards his own dugout.

He was ejected for excessive celebration.

Maybe college baseball umpires have been told to crack down on celebrations this season — because who would want to watch kids having fun playing baseball — but even if that's the case, this is ridiculous. Simpson didn't even celebrate that homer the hardest of anyone on his team. One of his teammates came sprinting out of the dugout and jumped two feet in the air to greet him after he crossed home plate.

This is just so moronic. College baseball has had a ton of positive momentum in the last few years, due in no small part to teams like Tennessee and Virginia Tech having awesome home run celebrations — which are far more excessive than anything Simpson did here — and just clearly having a ton of fun playing baseball. We can't let schmucks like whichever umpire ejected this guy ruin such a great game.

Get the boomers out of college baseball.
