Ribs Are A Perfectly Acceptable Airplane Food. Find A New Slant

There are obviously certain foods which are downright repulsive to bring aboard an aircraft. Any and all seafood should require immediate imprisonment. I love the shit out of Brussels sprouts but even I know the smell can be a bit much at times, so I'd refrain from sprouting out during a flight. Anything fermented has a rather pungent stench and should probably be avoided while you're 10,000 feet in the air.

But I find it hard to believe that there's anyone on this planet who doesn't love the smell of a rack of ribs coming off the smoker. The aroma of all that flavor building and binding together over hours of cooking those ribs down nice and low. The smoke, the spices, the fat rendering down into delicious delicious flavor. The world would be a significantly better place if it smelled like ribs everywhere you go.

Which is why ribs shouldn't fall under the category of "foods that should land you in jail if you attempt to eat them on an airplane". With that being said...well this is quite possibly the least aesthetically pleasing rack of ribs I've seen in my life.

I can understand being slightly repulsed by the sight of these on a plane. I'm sure the smell is still perfectly acceptable. But we've got no bark developed on those ribs, they're over-slathered in the most default looking BBQ sauce you could have, and I've also always just hated the idea of serving ribs a full half-rack at a time. Ribs are an exponentially less messy endeavor if you just take the time to slice every rib individually before serving. Like so:

If the ribs are individually sliced and didn't have an entire bottle of bbq sauce mindlessly squirted onto them, then ribs can be both dangerously delicious and relatively mess-free. Which seems like a good combination for in-flight dining.

And the best part of all? Once you're done eating a rack of ribs, the only thing you want to do is immediately fall asleep afterwards. You crush a rack of ribs once you take off and you're out cold until the moment you touch back down. It doesn't matter if you're taking a flight halfway around the world. Once you finish those ribs, you're sound asleep within 7 minutes.

So while those ribs in particular might be visually repugnant, eatings ribs on a flight in general should be celebrated rather than frowned upon. Case closed.
