Hockey Synchronicity: Connor McDavid And Connor Bedard Hit 100 Points For The Season On The Same Night

Connor McDavid was over here minding his own business, trying to get the Oilers back on track after a couple losses in a row. Despite the Rangers prevailing 5-4 in a shootout on Friday in Edmonton as the hosts blew a 4-1 lead, McDavid made significant history.

However, in a sort of cosmic rebuttal that you couldn't possibly make up, it was as if just as McDavid ascended to keep company with the likes of The Great One and Super Mario, the 17-year-old prodigy who's "NEXT", Connor Bedard, had an emphatic answer:

Yeah. A matter of minutes after McDavid achieved his absurd accomplishment at the highest level of hockey, Bedard put on a show of his own for the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats.

Bedard is the no-brainer No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft coming in late June. It's merely a question of which franchise will be lucky enough to land him. Or, you know, lose enough to earn that right. I can't imagine being the teams/fan bases who'll be sweating out that draft lottery to see where exactly they pick. Agonizing stuff.

What the Connors are achieving in their respective leagues is downright mind-blowing. When you look at how many games McDavid missed during some of his triple-digit point seasons and understand the elite company Bedard is keeping in his own right, you can't help but be floored by it if you appreciate hockey whatsoever and have a pulse.

The fact that McDavid is getting this type of shit done in this era of the NHL as opposed to, say, when Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux played, is even more impressive. Just look at McJesus' peers and how hard they've struggled and how frequently they've fallen short of the 100-point mark.

I hesitate to put those type of expectations on any top prospect, yet in Bedard's case, you'd have to be ignorant not to buy into the hype at this point. We're staring down another generational scorer whose play strength and tenacity should only enhance his offensive upside even more as he continues to fill out his frame with added weight in the coming years.

This really does feel like one of those watershed moments of star-powered synchronicity. Like a puck-inspired galactic alignment. Hopefully McDavid and Leon Draisaitl can drag the Oilers to another deep playoff run, because my lord, was that fun to watch last postseason. Then…when the puck drops on that 2023-24 campaign…we should see Bedard immediately hit the ice for some lucky as hell NHL club. In solidarity with Chief, the expansion of Barstool Chicago and as a proud ex-Windy City dweller for a calendar year, my prayers are up for Bedard to the Blackhawks.
