Dave Called His Shot In 2018 And Today PENN Officially Made Him The Richest Man In The World

I guess someone has to blog about the biggest news in the world right now. Yes, it's true- Dave has officially sold out. Today, PENN bought the remaining 68% of Barstool for a cool $388 million. That ain't stock, that's straight cash homey.
This year is Barstool's 20th anniversary and Dave celebrated by becoming mega rich. I mean he was already rich, but now he's like…REALLY, REALLY rich.
And shout out to the rest of the early OGs who got rich today too. I don't know exactly who it is and it's not polite to talk about money, but the homies at Barstool put in the work and it has paid off. It's really a great story- guy starts newspaper, basically goes broke, turns it into a website, eats a loaf of bread every day for 10 years, finds the right people at the right time to grow the empire (Keith, KFC, Gaz, BC, Feits, etc), and in the end found himself with 100's of millions of dollars in his pocket. The American dream, baby.
I think the best description of Barstool Sports isn't that it's a blog, or a podcast network, or a Snapchat, etc. At its core it was always a reality show about running a media company. There were days when the internet just didn't work. When the site would crash. When checks wouldn't clear. And it was all broadcasted onto the internet. Now there are so many brands and so many personalities that it's not an interwoven reality show as much anymore, but if you follow one brand or podcast closely, you feel you know those people and the details of their everyday life, maybe to a fault.
The story of Barstool is truly one of a kind. Dave didn't hire professional writers with journalism degrees- he found outcasts who thought differently, wrote differently (often times without grammar), and were willing to go the extra mile for the love of the game.
I was employee 9. NINE! And while I don't even consider myself an OG, I feel I have seen it all…but I don't think it's that crazy what the company has become. I joined when it was Dave, KFC, Big Cat, Kmarko, and Mo/Smitty writing 10+ blogs a day, every day. I was Dave's first content hire in 2 years when I came aboard. And from my first day, I knew I was part of something special and was going to work tirelessly to never have to get a "real job" again. After me came Trent and Chaps and Caleb and then it just kept growing from there. The move to NY, Erika joining, the grind of HQ2, and now the PENN acquisition. Couldn't happen to a better company.
Dave called his shot that day in 2018 and today it came true.
But if you guys could please stop liking this tweet, I would appreciate it.
