People Simply Cannot Get Enough Of The New And Improved Larger Bases In Baseball

We're getting a bunch of rules update for baseball for this coming season and the newest thing people are talking about is the bases. You can see from the picture above that they are much bigger, going from 15 square inches to 18 square inches, it's definitely different. The thought is it will increase the amount of stolen bases, which I guess is something MLB wants? I know I always tune in to baseball to see the stolen bases, I don't know about you.

Not only that, but they also say it will make it safer to slide into the bags...

High Heat Stats did the math and it doesn't appear that it cuts down the length at all, but hey if Robbie M wants it, he gets it! Stolen bases for everyone!

Now I'm sure you won't be able to tell when you're watching the game until someone eventually mentions it, no way you'll be able to tell with the naked eye.

However the real story about these bases is how in depth people are covering the story. I can't get over this picture:

You have rows of journalists snapping away at the new base and the old base in every way possible. Big cameras, cell phone cameras, Alex Cora called them pizza boxes. Chatter about the bases of baseball completely took over the sport yesterday, which I'm not sure is a good thing, a sad thing, or both.

Luckily pitchers and catchers report today so we don't have another news cycle of sports equipment making the rounds. I'm not sure how this will change everything but I appreciate people pointing out just how absurd baseball writers can be someetimes.
