Jalen Hurts Losing A Super Bowl Could End Up Being The Worst Thing To Ever Happen To The Rest Of The NFL

With the type of season that Jalen Hurts just had, he could barge into Howie Roseman's office today and write down any number he can come up with on a sheet of paper. Howie would have to pay him, and he'd be worth whatever the number is. The Eagles have a 24-year-old franchise quarterback who just led the team to a Super Bowl appearance, was a finalist for the MVP of the league, and clearly one of the best leaders in the game. When you find a guy like that, you hand him a blank check and worry about everything else later.

Had Jalen Hurts and the Eagles won the Super Bowl on Sunday, then there's a good chance he's taking Jeffrey Lurie to the bank right now. He would have gotten his ring, he would have been the Super Bowl MVP, and there'd be little left for him to prove. Not that Jalen Hurts seems like the type of guy who would be satisfied with just one Super Bowl. But he'd at least be able to treat himself to a nice little pay day.

But the fact that they lost on Sunday? Well now winning that first championship is still the main thing for Jalen. And he knows that if he wants to win plural championships with an 'S'? The Eagles will still need to be able to pay guys to surround him with. I wouldn't want Jalen Hurts to get low-balled in negotiations or anything because I think he's earned every cent he's about to make. But if he can't get this loss out of his head before getting to the negotiating table? Well that's exactly where Howie Roseman can string together a roster to completely dismantle the NFC for the next 5-10 years if Jalen Hurts has a team-friendly deal on his mind. Especially when he takes that next step in his development.

I know it's hard to rewatch clips from that game already but just look at what this dude did on Sunday night. His Super Bowl debut at 24-years-old, his 2nd year as a starter, and he was arguably the best player on the field that night. The 2nd highest passing grade ever recorded for a Super Bowl performance. There were people before the season who didn't think that Jalen Hurts should even be a starter in this league. And on the game's biggest stage he had one of the best performances ever Sunday night. If he can make the jump he made from last season to this season, then who is to say that he's done leveling up? Especially now that losing a Super Bowl added an extra thousand gallons of fuel to his fire.

Team friendly deal and an insatiable desire to grow and learn and get better each year? Seems like a disastrous combination for the rest of the NFL to me.
