We Are Living In The Golden Age Of Lacrosse Takes

One of the sure signs that a sport is really taking off is when you start to get more and more dipshits coming around with some of the most moronic, nonsensical, harebrained opinions you've ever heard in your life. The more people that start to watch a sport, the more idiots will be in the mix. It's just a natural progression considering how many dumbasses are currently in our society.

And as long as we're using those parameters as our judgement, well then the sport of lacrosse has never been in a better spot. Because after the opening weekend of the college lacrosse season, there have never been more dipshits out there with dipshit opinions.

First we have the crowd who thinks that Joey Spallina is a bust.

Joey Spallina is one of the most hyped up recruits we've had in college lacrosse. And for good reason. For starters, he grew up in the era of social media where we got to learn way more about him than we ever would have with recruits 10-15 years ago. Secondly, the kid broke the Long Island high school points record while missing an entire season due to Covid. So he's proven for years that he's a nasty lacrosse player, but he just didn't have his greatest game ever in his college debut at Syracuse wearing #22. He went 1/15 shooting on the day, which caused 50% of online lacrosse fans to deem him a bust. Incredible.

There was a take floating out there that Brennan O'Neill is a bust.

The same Brennan O'Neill who set the record for fastest player to reach 100 career goals at Duke. Pretty solid program with some pretty solid players to come through it, if you ask me. The same Brennan O'Neill who has 11 points through 2 games so far this year. Incredible.

Johns Hopkins is one of the most historic programs in college lacrosse history. They've been awful lately but still one of the most historic. They beat Jacksonville to open up their season last weekend. A program that didn't even exist 15 years ago. And with that win…Hopkins takes a page right out of the Texas football playbook and are officially back.

The moral of the story here is that the more people start to watch and care about a sport, the more bad takes there are going to be. It's the law of averages or whatever. Heck, you've got Dan Orlovsky out there right now saying that it would be a disappointment if the Philadelphia Eagles don't become a dynasty and that's before the Super Bowl even gets played. We live in a world of overreaction, and lacrosse is finally there.

So with that in mind, on this week's episode of The Crease Dive we talk about all the best overreactions to the opening week of the season. Recap everything that went down in week 0. And then give our picks and previews heading into this weekend's slate of games starting off tonight with Syracuse and Albany.
