Fishing Season Only Lasts 65 Minutes For One of The Most Rare Species In America

Michigan's shortest fishing season lasted 65 minutes Saturday.

The 2023 lake sturgeon fishing season on Black Lake in Cheboygan and Presque Isle counties began at 8 a.m. and ended at 9:05 a.m.

The harvest limit for the season was six lake sturgeon. Officials close the season either when the sixth fish is harvested or five fish have been harvested at the end of any fishing day.

Last year, the season ended after 36 minutes. The largest fish caught in 2022 was a 62-inch male that weighed 67 pounds.

"Lake sturgeon rehabilitation efforts in Black Lake over the last two decades have been a successful collaboration between the Michigan DNR, Sturgeon for Tomorrow, tribal agencies, Michigan State University and Tower-Kleber Limited Partnership," according to DNR.

I dont wanna be reactionary but I need to react about this fish. Look at that fucker. Easily the rarest fish these eyes have laid on this week. The sturgeon is absolutely gorgeous and it would be ridiculous to suggest otherwise. I mean, it's got the cutest snout and wonderful markings. Additionally, I appreciate the restoration of any species especially the bald eagle because I am Patriotic. To be sure, I am rather excited that a new season will be here in just 361 days and presumably, you are too.

That being said, if I don't eat this fish before I die, I'll myself on the spot. I need it. What would be the best seasonings for a fish so rare? Probably something really fancy. I bet Large would love to have this at his place and his fancy pots. He'd certainly know all this but in case you don't, you fuckin hillbilly, lake sturgeon are known to vary in flavor, depending on their diet and whether they are caught in brackish or fresh water. Farmed white sturgeon has a mild, delicate flavor, less pronounced than that of green sturgeon. The lean flesh is firm and meaty, similar in texture to chicken breast or veal. Pretty cool. But that's also for regular lake sturgeon that are plentiful. That isn't the black lake sturgeon we are talkin about though. The characteristics above are solely for regular ole run-of-the-mill lake sturgeon Black sturgeon deserves so much more and only dozens of people in all of current history know what it tastes like.

I need it. I need to taste it. If you're a fisherman in this part of the country, being one of the black lake sturgeon anglers has gotta get that thang sucked on for the rest of your natural life. You'd just walk in to any ole watering hole and people would be lining up to have the line of the fella who had a black lake sturgeon on his line. The fella above is in a good, good, good spot.

PS: had no idea they King Triton'd them shits. What a rush that's gotta be.
