Wisconsin Supreme Court Nominee Opening A Gun Range/ Bar And EVERYONE Should Be Fine With It

There’s a pivotal election in April that you may not have heard about: A conservative judge on the Wisconsin Supreme Court is retiring, and four people are running in a race that could tip the body from its 4-3 conservative majority. It’s not hyperbole to say that whoever wins the race will determine whether the state’s abortion ban gets overturned and could rule on the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. (The two candidates in the race who support abortion rights are Judges Janet Protasiewicz and Everett Mitchell.)

According to local news reports, Waukesha County Judge Jennifer Dorow, a conservative candidate, and her husband Brian, are developing an indoor gun range that would not only host weddings and other events, but would also serve alcohol. The couple requested a Class B liquor license to sell beer and wine to members and guests in the “clubhouse.” The range would also sell firearms and accessories on-site. The Dorows said in city documents that they devised an “alcohol safety policy” consisting of hand stamps to prevent members from entering the shooting range after drinking and a breathalyzer to be used on “suspicious individuals.”

When I first saw this, my Marine Staff Sergeant side winced. The first thing you learn about weapons is that weapon safety is paramount. Im not sure how much safety can be involved if there's booze and guns involved but there are certainly things they can do to mitigate the risk. I thought I would be completely against the idea but then I saw the person applying for the license and now I'm totally behind it. She can do whatever the fuck she wants and anytime she wants. I will support that no matter what.

Why? Because I watched a trial with her as the judge and I've never been more impressed. I do not exaggerate when I say that Jennifer Dorow is the single most patient person on the planet. Im not sure if you all saw it or watched clips but it was as explosive, odd, and heartbreaking as any trial I've ever heard about. The defendant was Darrell Brooks and he's one of the most unhinged people in the history of the judicial system.

Brooks represented himself in the trial - a dead giveaway for crazy- and each day brought something crazier to the table. There is no way to pick and choose the highlights of this trial because there are just too many. You need to watch long clips or entire days' worth of testimony to get a feel for this monstrous man. Brooks was RELENTLESS in his outbursts, attacks, and chiding of the judge. He interrupted, intimidated, and irritated Judge Dorow at every turn but she knew that Brook's entire goal was to get a mistrial or set the judge up to have her rulings thrown out during appeal. Not gonna happen. She displayed self-control in a way that would make Gandhi look like a rebel.

If you aren't familiar with the case, here's a quick summary.

Darrell Brooks was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of extended supervision Wednesday for driving his SUV into a crowd of Christmas parade attendees in Waukesha, Wisconsin, last year, killing six people and wounding dozens.

In a clean sweep for the prosecution, a jury found Brooks, 40, guilty last month on all 76 counts stemming from the attack, including six counts of first-degree intentional homicide with the use of a dangerous weapon.

Following two days of statements from victims and family members, Judge Jennifer Dorow imposed the mandated sentence, ordering Brooks to serve a life sentence without the possibility of extended supervision for each of the first-degree homicide counts. The sentences will run consecutively, she said.

Day after day. Week after week. Judge Dorow displayed an unreal amount of patience. She kept Brooks in the courtroom despite thousands, for real, thousands of interruptions. She spoke into the record every time Brooks did something outside of the norms of proceedings. Like this shit.

She could have had him removed, gagged, placed in holding, or held in contempt, or declare him unfit to represent himself. She didn't. She let him dig and dig and dig until he found himself in Max Security Prison for the rest of his life most of which will be in solitary confinement. She orders that after accepting the jury's recommendation.

Judge Dorow never, despite personal attacks and her own self-respect, led that sway her way from her oath. I haven been as impressed with a person in a LONG TIME than what Judfe Dorow displayed. Truly remarkable.

So, in short, if this judge wants to open a gun range in my backyard, I'd say ok. She's earned that.
