Arizona -5.5 Delivered The Gambling World An All-Time Disgusting, Grotesque, Hideous Bad Beat Last Night

Let me start by saying that I've watched some weird, bizarre, gross videos on the internet in my time on this Earth. None of those hold a candle to what Arizona did to their bettors last night against Washington State. They're just kids, but man this was a doozy.

Let's set the scene a little bit. Arizona closed as a -5.5 point favorite on the road against Washington State. If you looked at the matchup going in it did scream a bit of a rat line with the number 6 team in the country a relative small favorite against a 9-12 team who is 4-6 in conference.

That being said Zona opened up a double digit lead in the first half and looked pretty good. That was before they stumbled to close, heading to the break only up 4. The score remained tight for the majority of the second half until six or so minutes left on the clock when the Wildcats stretched their lead to a breathable number. A Courtney Ramey three in the corner put Zona up 10 with 55 seconds left. Dagger, right?

After a missed layup by Wazzu, Arizona dribbled down the shot clock and lobbed an alley oop towards the rim, except the guy heading down the baseline didn't expect it. The ball ricocheted off the backboard to a hustling Cougar who proceeded to cash in on some free points on the other end, trimming the lead to 8 with 18.3 to go. Timeout Arizona. Alright what's gonna happen next? A token press by Washington State only to have Arizona dribble out the clock once they cross the half court line, right? RIGHT??? Wazzu all but likely isn't fouling so as long as you avoid the turnover you're fine. All you needed was them to dribble the clock out and it's over.

Well…

There is no scenario whatsoever where if you have Arizona -5.5 in this still frame that you should even entertain the idea of losing your bet. I typically expect the worst in these kind of situations so I can handle the potential sadness a little better, but even here you have to be reaching for the remote getting ready to find a movie or show to fall asleep to.

The moment Tubelis missed that dunk you knew what was coming next. Ruthless. Not a soul on Earth deserves that bad beat. They happen to everyone here and there, but not like that. That right there is a special kind of nightmare. Sneaky worst part of this might be the two points that were incorrectly awarded to Arizona on the score bug when Tubelis missed the dunk. Enough to trick you when the final horn sounded that you had the score wrong initially and actually covered. Nope, that was just the icing on the cake of one of the worst bad beats in a long time.

My only hope is that if you had Arizona you passed out late at night before any of this happened. If you had Arizona nobody better ask you to do anything today. Dishes, nothing. You deserve a nice "you" day to try and reset the ol' brain.

P.S. If you had Washington State I'm not even sure you can brag about that one in the the off-chance the person you're talking to had Arizona. That's just one of those laugh out loud covers you gotta thank your lucky stars for.

Certainly nothing wrong with taking a break after that. 2023 is all about being responsible and looking out for each other. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER
