Eric Bieniemy On How Patrick Mahomes Has Recovered So Well From His High Ankle Sprain: "I Have No Idea, But I Want What He's Taking"

The big question mark storyline/question mark heading into Championship Sunday surrounds the ankle of one Patrick Mahomes. Let's delve into what happened and where we're at.

The injury he suffered early in the Chiefs divisional round game against the Jaguars looked BAD.

Mahomes pleaded like a 10 year old being told they had to bed to go back in the game.

I'm not making fun of him, who wouldn't want their star QB doing that in a playoff game? But it did sound funny hearing him beg.

Reid won that argument and made him go in for x rays with the verdict being "only" a high ankle sprain. Honestly he was lucky to not have any knee damage from that kind of hit. Despite having his mobility severely limited and not looking himself he played the whole 2nd half on adrenaline and maybe a shot or two to advance the Chiefs to the AFC Championship game.

Finishing the game is one thing, but the moment the adrenaline wears off is when trouble really begins to set in. A high ankle sprain is typically a month long injury. While Mahomes isn't Lamar Jackson on the run he definitely uses his mobility to make a lot of the jaw dropping plays we see social media cum themselves over 24/7. What am I doing? Telling you what Mahomes does on the field? You know what makes him special, but the question remained how would a week of practice look with that injury. Would he even practice?

Well for starters there was no sign of a walking boot anywhere.

Look at that walk! That look like a man severely hampered with a high ankle sprain? Not to these eyes.

Would be great if the moment he left the camera shot there were crutches waiting for him to limp off with.

Then there's the footage from practice…

Based on analyzing Mahomes' strut as he walked out of his press conference and that jog to the opposite end zone I'd say he looks good as new. Who needs Dr. David Chao when you have me. Surely everything can change with real game speed and these giant men all trying to bring him to the ground, but this feels like best case scenario considering how bad the hit initially looked.

Bieniemy chimed in with his thoughts on the rehab and gave a great reaction.

The answer is drugs, lots of drugs. Odds are Mahomes' ankle feels like your mouth after the dentist gives you a nice ol' root canal. Sounds fun! Need him to be as high as Rodgers here during his postgame interview.

That interview will never not make me laugh.

In a turn of events how about the worry for playing being for Travis Kelce and not Mahomes. Probably a tweak and nothing too serious, but something to keep an eye on.

Anyways, get me to Sunday. Four of the very best teams in football, two games with very small spreads, great home field environments? Feed it to me.
