It Feels Like #ThrowbackThursday Has Become Non-Existent On Instagram

I could be dating myself but I was old enough to remember when Instagram popped up on the scene and had the world abuzz. Very much like when Facebook first came out, and as described accurately in the movie "was cool, which is what it had going for it", Instagram was cool. It was all young people in college or out of college like myself who worked jobs they didn't like, were poor, living in shit apartments, but went after it on the weekends and shared pictures of their social life.

It was very simple in that it was literally only pictures. It almost gave off a vibe of people just casually taking a polaroid in the moment and then showing you it at a later date. You could see that your buddies went to the new bar in town and posed for a casual picture. Not everyone's faces were perfect, not everyone even knew the photo was being taken, it was very organic in the moment stuff. I don't even think comments were available when it first came out. No one was posing for pictures, no one was writing awful shit in the comments, there were no stories, and also no one was obsessionally scrolling it like they do today. It was a fun time, it really was. It was when we thought social media could still have a cool feel. We have since learned that to be false.

Anyway, one of the first things I remember was talking with my buddy Primo (I may have mentioned he was the kid obsessed with Pizza Hut as a kid and would get delivery every week multiple times, and then one day they called and were told they were out of the delivery zone and he nearly flipped out. I've been on bachelor parties with him where he's been late to the bar or day club because he craves Pizza Hut again and he was mentioning instagram or where he saw a picture that two people were dating etc, and casually asked "Do you know about Throwback Thursday?"  Which as I am sure you know was a very simple concept of posting an old photo of yourself or something in your life, or your crew / friends etc. It really did have legs, it became a lot of fun to see old photos, remember old bars, places etc. And it went on for a while. Seemed like a bunch of years at least, and appointment type posting those first years Instagram was released. Then all of a sudden…

It seemed like everyone collectively hit the lights on posting #ThrowbackThursdays. I don't really have a major attachment to it, and I know nothing lasts forever, I'm just really genuinely asking doesn't it seem like #ThrowbackThursday is officially gone? And How did this happen?

Like I said, I get it. Nothing is forever and maybe you eventually do run out of photos, but it sure did seem like that movement was a fun little time to be on social media when everyone seemed to get along and openly shared things without worrying about getting trolled, or their job, or social status etc.  Maybe this post will inspire everyone to bring it back and have a little fun again.

With that said, ere's a photo of Fun Anthony and myself Summer 2014 after slamming a few grails and toasting champagne.
