Brandon Moreno Shuts Figueiredo's Eye And The Door On This Rivalry
The FOURTH and final fight between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo in the co-main event of UFC 283 just ended via doctor stoppage after Figueiredo was unable to open his eye after Round 3 - meaning Moreno is the NEW Undisputed Flyweight Champion yet again!
There was a punch at the end of Round 3 that closed the eye, and although Figueiredo protested an eye poke, the replays showed that it was just one of his knuckles in a clean punch landing directly into the eye socket....
Totally legal, and totally clean.
You never want to see a fight end due to a bad cut/eye injury, so that sucks (especially being this was the "rubber match" between both fighters) but his eye was totally fucked, and the doctor definitely made the right call.
Plus, Moreno was putting on a phenomenal performance before the fight was called off, and up 3-0 on my scorecard (2-1 on the judges' scorecards); it just felt like tonight was his night. He was faster, landing his takedowns, piecing Figgy up on the feet, and never in too much danger - even when he found himself in Deiveson's guillotines/submission attempts.

Afterwards, Figueiredo took his gloves off and made everyone think he was about to retire - but he just wanted to really dramatically announce that he is moving up to bantamweight. Big whoop.
(Nah, there's a lot of great matchups for him up at 135 - don't get me wrong - I'm excited to see him fight there)
Per tradition in Brazil, Moreno was given a garbage shower on the way out for beating one of their own….
