Lamar Jackson FINALLY Speaks Out On The Status Of His Injured Knee

My goodness, was that so hard?? I'm not necessarily directing that sentiment at Lamar, I'm directing it at anyone…. literally anyone in the know that could have shared some semblance of an answer as to what the hell is going on with QB1. He just also happens to be the one most in the know.

It's been a long and exhausting few weeks in Baltimore. Just like it was last year when Lamar was on the shelf with an ankle injury and speculation ran rampant every week as to whether he would come back at any point for a playoff push… which he didn't. Now we've been forced to watch the same damn movie all over again, and we already know how it ends.

We've spent roughly 12 weeks the past 2 seasons in the dark wondering what the hell was going on leading up to our most important games. In each of those weeks, John Harbaugh has been forced to stand in front of the media after practice like a buffoon and dance around the inevitable questions that I genuinely think he has not had answers to. Why that is? Perhaps time will tell… but it's been an infuriating and exhausting ride that I think most of the fan base is just ready to be over.

My question is… why now? Why wait until Thursday of Wild Card week to clear the air? Especially after the consistent understanding of the injury publicly was a 1-3 week timeline. Once you've surpassed that window, rumors and speculation and anger grow like a weed. And from a football standpoint, I understand the notion of mystery and subterfuge to keep the Bengals guessing. But if that was the goal, why not throw on a knee brace and throw some footballs at some tires at practice? Even flat-footed, just to keep up the charade that he might be able to go. That would at least help the mission a little, right? And if the sprain/tear of the ligament is as bad as a Grade 2/3, we should've known weeks ago that a return was never in the cards.

There are just a million ways to have dealt with this that would've been less infuriating to everybody involved. And yes, there's a sense of entitlement as fans where we think that we deserve to be in the know. But that's part of the game. We're invested in the team. Emotions are part of that. Won't apologize for that.

That still leaves us with a playoff football game against a division rival. One that I actually think we can grind out and compete in with Tyler Huntley at QB… but what's the point? Those tweets don't sound like a guy that's getting off the couch anytime soon. And I find it hard to believe this team can truly go on a run against KC or Buffalo without #8 under center. So really, all we can do at this point is treat Sunday night like our Super Bowl and pray for the best. And if we win? We'll hang out hat on that and it's all gravy from there. Cincinnati better HOPE they don't let us stick around in this one.
