Michelle Yeoh Telling The Golden Globes To Shut Up Was The Most Badass Moment Of The Entire Awards Ceremony

You love to see it. Look, I know TV producers are frenetically trying to time shit up behind the scenes so you hit your marks for commercial breaks. They're put in the tough spot of playing off creative talent even when they're not finished making their acceptance speeches. I empathize with all parties involved in these Golden Globes shenanigans.
HOWEVER. I never understood why there's such a big brouhaha over moving the show along. It's no secret that most people are sloshed at the Golden Globes anyway. What harm does it do to let a fucking ICON like Michelle Yeoh — who, as she said, waited 40 years for a role like this — talk just a liiiiiittle longer about such a towering achievement and powerhouse performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
This woman has done literal death-defying stunts in movies with Jackie Chan, brought some actual brains and agency to a Bond Girl in Tomorrow Never Dies, brought her whole-ass stunt team to that movie to make it better, and showed as much range as you could ever imagine seeing from a lead actor en route to a Golden Globe award for Best Actress, Musical or Comedy.
Shoving Everything Everywhere All At Once into any category seems funny, because yes, it's definitely comedic, but there's such a heart-wrenching family drama at the center of the bagel the movie. Although I haven't seen every awards darling movie from 2022, I'm a total sci-fi geek, so no matter how good Tár is, and even acknowledging how much I enjoyed The Fabelmans, I still contend Everything Everywhere All At Once is the Best Picture of 2022 and I don't think it's particularly close.
Aaaaaand yet The Banshees of Inisherin won for screenplay and musical/comedy picture last night. I love me some Martin McDonagh. Banshees was really good, yet it didn't have me in stitches the way In Bruges did. I "get" why critics and other folks adored it so much. Better than EEAAO? Nah.
If you for some reason haven't seen Everything Everywhere All At Once, I'm sorry you didn't get to see it in the theater. I walked out of that movie at the end and felt short of breath, but in an exhilarated/positive sort of way? Like it was so overwhelming of an experience that my body was physically struggling how to process it while my brain was leaking into a mushy puddle trailing behind me.
Supporting Actor Golden Globe winner Ke Huy Quan — FUCK YEAH!!!!!! — gave the line delivery of the year and it wasn't even in English. His acceptance speech was also awesome, by the way:
ANYWAY. The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) co-directed and cowrote Everything Everywhere All At Once. The whole cast kills it. Stephanie Hsu deserved a nomination.
But yeah...Michelle Yeoh should absolutely, no doubt, win the Oscar. Her triumph would be such a monumental moment and it's 100% merited. I know Cate Blanchett and her four Golden Globes and two Oscars will pose some serious competition, but in any event, Yeoh earned the Golden Globe and got a little payback for any awards recipient who ever got played off early before they got to say everything they wanted to say.
