Watch This When You're High - The Radium Girls

I was driving around this afternoon running errands for a construction project, with Tom Morello's show, "Renegade Radio" on Lithium on SiriusXM tuned in. 

He was playing some jams, including this one, and during one of the intermissions he got to talking about growing up in little old Marseilles, Illinois.

He got into telling a story about how growing up there, in small town, central Illinois, folks used to get notices on their water bills with monthly radium level readings on them. (After the fact) they would let residents know if the water was healthy enough to use and consume that month. 

From there, he got to talking about "The Radium Girls". My ears perked up. 

He said how whenever he returns home, he makes it a point to take flowers and pay respect to the town's memorial statue "Radium Girls."

My ears perked up because I had no clue what he was talking about, as the story got stranger. And more grim.

I won't spoil the whole thing, but it's fucking insane what the people, especially the women in this small rural town, were put through by the watch-making factory owners.

What a sad, fucked up story. 

Morello even put together a tribute song to them, titled, "Radium Girls".
