Congrats To Philly Sportswriter Dan Gelston Submitting Arguably The Worst Hall Of Fame Ballot Ever!
My favorite time of the year is ballot season. MLB writers get off on showing their ballots and boy oh boy are there some bad ones. It's been quiet this year but finally, we've got our first dog shit ballot of the season. Philly sportswriter Dan Gelston submitted his ballot with only one player selected.....Jimmy Rollins. That is right. He picked Rollins and ONLY Rollins.
Gelston earned this ballot, I'm sure he has worked hard to get to where he is…..and he blows it with a ballot like this? Yes he's allowed to vote for whoever he wants and doesn't have to answer to us, but this is embarrassing. I'd love to hear him try and convince people why Rollins should be in over some of the guys on that ballot.
Rollins was a fine player, nothing more. MVP, 3 time All Star, World Series Champion, 4 time Gold Glove winner, 2,455 hits, 231 homers, and a career average of .264. Again, a fine career, a career tons of players would love to have. But is he a Hall of Famer? Should Rollins be in over Carlos Beltran? Todd Helton? Torii Hunter? Scott Rolen? Billy Wagner? No chance in hell. So for Gelston to waste a vote and a ballot on just Rollins is example 4,506 of why MLB writers are a joke. They love this, they do it on purpose to get their name in the lights, and boy oh boy is it working. It gets me fired up, it gets others fired up just because these ballots are so dumb.
You work for years and years to get this privilege to vote and you smack the game of baseball in the face in the name of Jimmy Rollins? Unreal. It happens every single year, it happened here, and here, and here, and here, and here. It's a joke every single year. Stuff like this should get your vote taken away or suspended. You want to make it a joke? You get punished. I don't know what Dan Gelston owes to Jimmy Rollins but it's obvious he's on the hook for something. So congrats to Jimmy for getting this vote, but a big thumbs down to clown Gelston.
