Devin White Was Named NFC Defensive Player Of The Week After Putting On A Show Days After His Dad Died

Buccaneers Linebacker Devin White earned the award for Defensive Player of the Week after his 9 tackle, 2 sack, 1 forced fumble performance in Germany against the Seahawks. Breaking down the tape, it was an outstanding game for White in all phases.

After his first sack, White pointed up to the heavens to honor his Dad who passed away just days earlier.

The Buccaneers flew out of Tampa to Germany on Thursday and White found out of his father, Carlos Thomas had passed unexpectedly just hours earlier. He was given the option to stay back and handle personal matters with his family, but White chose to board the plane and headed to Germany with his other Bucs teammates.

White went out to play that fantastic game and was awarded the game ball after by Head Coach Todd Bowles.

From a human perspective, this is just wild. There have been notable performances like Brett Favre on Monday Night Football against the Raiders throwing for 399 yards and 4 TDs in a 41-7 blowout just days after his Dad passed away. The Bucs had another version of this with their former Linebacker Kwon Alexander having an outstanding game in Atlanta vs. the Falcons just days after his brother was brutally murdered. Athletes are people too and I just think it's damn impressive to be able to compartmentalize everything that's going on in your personal life and play a tremendous game like those guys all did. I wanted to give credit where credit was due and White was playing through a lot on Sunday and was a key part of their victory.
