If you haven't heard about the fantastic night in Toronto over the weekend when the Maple Leafs honored the great Swedish Defenseman Börje Salming, make sure to check out the video below. Börje was a Leafs' legend and paved the way to North America for all the Swedish and European players we see today.
Thursday night in Sweden there was another emotional ceremony honoring the great Swede. In Stockholm, the Swedish Hockey Federation was celebrating 100 years of hockey with a huge Gala in Avicii Arena. Björe was giving a much-deserved standing ovation.
Of course, when celebrating 100 years of anything an all-time team had to be named, and of course, Björe found his name on the team. I mean what a squad!!
I was lucky enough to meet Börje last spring in Toronto and share with him that I was a former hockey player as well and that I married a Swedish girl and spend a lot of time in Sweden. He thought that was very cool, I tried some of my kindergarten Swedish with him and his family and couldn't believe I was lucky enough to meet such a legend.
It’s horrible what is happening to him and all others from this terrible disease, and we can only hope they find a cure for this soon. Börje and family we all thinking and wishing the best for all of you.
