The $EBR crew is known as a problem for the Barstool Sportsbook with our winning ways in European Hockey and the NHL mostly… but the World Cup is starting and running for a month which provides many things.

A. More action to get us through the workday.

B. Another opportunity to start building the bankroll for holiday present shopping.

C. Football (soccer) is the most popular sport in the world.

This is a preview blog about the group format that starts off the tournament and we will give group winners odds from Barstool Sportsbook.  I may have not said this but I love football, it truly is a fantastic sport that allows you to zone out for 90 minutes without commercials and relax. Now I know the times in the states will be tough with the West coast having the early wake-up time at 5 am but come on it's the world cup.

The last World Cup took place in Russia and me and some friends hit 4 countries that were playing and watched some games with the locals. Below is a picture from Lisbon during Portugal vs. Spain match, where Ronaldo scored the tying goal late to get his team a point.

There were probably 50k fans at this watch party and when he scored this goal the place went bonkers.

Portugal -148: Ronaldo will get the headlines since he is doing everything he can to leave Man United but when the lights are the brightest Ronny is electric. The Portugal team is also good enough and understands that he is an asset but not the end all. They are strong in the midfield and very sound on the back end.

The real injury that will hurt this team is Diego Jota (Liverpool) which means Ronny is going to have more minutes but the guy is cut like a bodybuilder so he should be good.

Goal Scorer: Bruno Fernandes (Man United) The formation does not always work for his style but he is the next leader of this team when Ronaldo is done. He will have to be in great form to help Portugal make a deep run.

Uruguay +185: The last run of a group that has made Uruguay a country to be dealt with in any big tournament while continuing the tradition of the old times.  The team from South America will not change or apologize for how they play. Park the bus and work the referees as much as possible.

If you watch La Liga, they are close to Atletico Madrid. They want every game to be 1-0. Suarez is long in the tooth but you can expect him to be flopping and crying throughout the game to slow the pace, but if he is around the box he can score.

Goal Scorer: Edison Cavani (Valencia) A veteran of the team but probably the best jawline in the tournament Cavani is a goal scorer who can still fly. He and Suarez are always dangerous when they are on the field and he will look to lead the front in all games.

South Korea +1400: The boys from South Korea are getting better but Son (Tottenham) is a world-class player on a team of mediocre players.  He is coming into the tournament with a fractured eye and will look like the masked man out there. If he can not play all games and play well this team has no chance.

They will score goals as they play fast and uptempo but they have to stop teams in transition.  I do not think they have a chance in this tourney with Son being on the mend.

Goal Scorer: Kim Min-Jae (Napoli) He is not a forward but he is awesome at set pieces and look for him to get on the end of a header to put the team up.

Ghana +1500: The team is led by the Ayew brothers, they have the most caps and most goals but in this tourney, they flipped a talented player from Spain to join them on this squad.  The long-shot team is also dealing with plenty of injuries, especially in the net with their top two goalies out. This is a tough climb to get out of the group but you never know.

Goal Scorer: Kamal Sowah (Club Brugge) He popped up on my radar as he scored a great goal against Porto which ended up making me lose money but anyway if this front line can get going they could shock a team looking ahead.

$EBR Group Winner: Uruguay +185
