Brendan Fraser Tells The Golden Globes To Get Fucked

Fraser is not just favored to be nominated in the best actor category, he’s currently favored to win. In a “normal” awards season, that would mean Fraser would very likely be nominated at the Golden Globes as well. I asked if he would go if invited.

“I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” Fraser said. “No, I will not participate.”

He was speaking very quietly. I had to lean forward just to hear him over the wind moving through the trees above us. “It’s because of the history that I have with them. And my mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that.”

ICYMI, Brendan Fraser alleged that he was sexually assaulted by the former president of the HFPA, Philip Berk, in 2003.

"His left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint... And he starts moving it around. I felt ill. I felt like a little kid. I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry."

Right after this incident, which he didn't make public at the time but reported to the HFPA, his career started a downturn where his then-star career went down. He felt he had been blacklisted for reporting the abuse, and he was shut out by the HFPA and Golden Globes awards. In addition to that, he went through a hard divorce that left him forced to pay an alimony that bankrupted him as his star declined. This lead to bouts of depression and related health problems.

Over the last few years, though, he has made a huge comeback. He's had some awesome supporting roles in 'No Sudden Move' and 'Doom Patrol' and has a oscar-buzz movie coming out soon in 'The Whale'. He also has a role in an upcoming, Leo-lead Scorsese movie in 'Killers of the Flower Moon'. The man is awesome and deserves all he is getting. This is when we interviewed him in 2019 for 'Doom Patrol'. He thought our love for him was a bit at first, only realizing it was genuine near the end of the interview. He got choked up and gave us big hugs after the interview.

Anyway, I love this for him. Fuck the HFPA and their garbage award show. They want to defend an old freak molester then they can enjoy an award show without Hollywood's sweetheart. Also, it's worth noting that the HFPA president in question was fired in 2021 after he emailed his fellow members an article calling BLM a 'Racist Hate Movement'. Good riddance, freak.
