Jeff Bezos Says He Will Take His Time Giving The Majority Of His Wealth To Charity After The World Has Clearly Bullied Him Into It

NY Post- Jeff Bezos — long criticized for being stingy with his $124 billion fortune — said in an interview he plans to give most of it away to charity during his lifetime. The Amazon founder — currently the fourth wealthiest person in the world, according to Forbes — has been criticized for not being more charitable with his vast wealth, spending it instead on expensive toys including a massive yacht and a massive luxury pad in New York City.

Bezos — who has faced particular criticism for not participating in the Giving Pledge, in which hundreds of the world’s richest people have agreed to donate most of their money to charitable causes — also has poured billions into his rocket company, Blue Origin.

But in an interview this weekend he and his gal pal Lauren Sanchez gave to CNN, Bezos said he plans to donate most of his billions to fight climate change and address political and social divisiveness in the world.

Still, Bezos admitted that he doesn’t yet have a plan to unload his wealth and that he’ll take his time about doing so.

“It’s not easy,” Bezos said. “Building Amazon was not easy. It took a lot of hard work, a bunch of very smart teammates, hard-working teammates, and I’m finding — and I think Lauren is finding the same thing — that charity, philanthropy, is very similar.”

“There are a bunch of ways that I think you could do ineffective things, too,” he added. “So you have to think about it carefully and you have to have brilliant people on the team.”

It might not be very "chill" of me to completely agree with Bezos here, but I do. He's a billionaire, with more money than he'll ever spend in his lifetime. But….is it not his money? Did he not build one of, if not the biggest e-commerce company in the world? I order something from Amazon every single day. I know people have mixed feelings on it but like…maybe you should just give it a try? There's a reason it's worth billions of dollars.

Whatever your thoughts on Amazon and the Mega Rich may be, why do "people" need to be criticizing and bullying Bezos into donating his money RIGHT NOW? Do you know how many times celebrities and super rich people donate HUGE chunks of change to charity, and it ends up being totally bogus and does absolutely nothing? Personally, and we're talking SMALL donations here, but the only time I'm breaking out my wallet for charity is when it's a very small, niche charity that my TINY donation can actually make a difference.

I gravitate towards children and the arts, providing supplies etc etc. That's not even a brag, that's just something I think is worth skipping a few Ubers and nights out for. Bezos is going to be donating BILLIONS one day, and he wants to make sure it's going to make an actual difference. The world is corrupt! People are fucking stupid! Based on this careful consideration, Bezos is clearly not an idiot. And so what, he wants to buy a yacht in the meantime? Who gives a fuck. If you want rich people to stop buying yachts, then stop making them.
