We Can Thankfully Stop Pretending Clemson Is Any Good

Clemson has been fraudulent all season and that was pretty obvious to anyone who spent more than a couple minutes watching the Tigers play. But coming into Saturday, Clemson going 13-0 and getting into the College Football Playoff as a dogshit team despite the fact everyone knowing they sucked was very much on the table — see 2014 Florida State.

And then the Tigers went to South Bend and got run out of the building by 5-3 Notre Dame.

This was a great result for all college football fans. Even if Clemson finishes as a 12-1 ACC champion, I think the nature of this loss very well may have knocked it out of CFP contention. When the committee discusses the one-loss teams, it's going to take a while before it seriously considers Clemson.

This has been coming for weeks, though. Wake Forest easily could have knocked off the Tigers in their double overtime game, an unimpressive NC State team hung in there with them to the end and Syracuse lost a one-possession game. All it took was a team with a pulse and the Tigers couldn't move the ball to save their lives.

I'm not convinced this will be Clemson's only loss, either. Louisville or South Carolina could absolutely take the Tigers down on the right day. Regardless, we can rest easy tonight knowing Clemson's season took a massive blow, if not a death knell.
