Neighbor Puts Out Holiday Turkey Inflatable Day Before Man Puts Out Exactly Same, Much Larger Holiday Turkey Inflatable

Holiday decorations in the burbs are a big deal. It can be kind of a keeping up with the Joneses as you never want to be the one person that doesn't have them. There is a street on my town that every house goes super big and it's honestly kind of cool to see. My kids love that block and it's a fun little thing that's family friendly and kills some time while making some memories.

But in a regular neighborhood, things can get tough as local Home Depots and Lowe's typically only carry so many variations. I got a write in from a buddy who is dealing with an awkward situation of his own.

"Our direct neighbors put out a Thanksgiving inflatable on November 1st. I ordered one previously but hadn't put it out. It's the exact same as theirs, but way bigger. It looks like we are just trying to one up them since it's bigger and we put it out after. They are really cool neighbors and shovel our driveway in winter when we are gone so want to keep up a good relationship. What should we do?"

Here is a photo for context as this must have been quite the sight when they saw it on their neighbor's lawn on Tuesday.

I see four potential avenues to handle this issue:

Option #1: Take ours down, so we have no decor

Option #2: Keep the bigger turkey up

Option #3: Take it down, get new decor

Option #4: Talk to them about it

I would recommend not making a mountain out of a mole hill. I'd take it down and get something new. If it's still in fine condition you can probably return it. I understand the reasoning to not. You don't want to seem like a beta and you already paid for it. Thanksgiving also has not a lot of options as far as a turkey, pilgrims, and that's kind of it. But I think leaving it up for the next three weeks can lead to bad feelings that could fuck you up down the line. Like if they shovel your driveway sometimes, imagine losing that?! That juice here simply is not worth the squeeze. Stand down old buddy.
