We Need To Appreciate Umpire Pat Hoberg's Perfect Game Behind The Plate In Game 2 Of The World Series
Sean M. Haffey. Getty Images. In a time where brainless, incompetent morons like Angel Hernandez, Ron Kulpa, and C.B. Bucknor plague the sport of baseball with terrible call after terrible call I felt it was necessary to highlight a rare bright spot. That would be Pat Hoberg, the home plate umpire for Game 2 of the World Series this past Saturday night.
A PERFECT GAME! The first of its kind since the umpire scorecards began coming out in 2015 and this stallion did it in the World Series. Talk about dropping your nuts on the table.
This is even more impressive when you factor in the strike stealing technicians catching the game in Martin Maldonado and J.T. Realmuto. Those guys are among the best in the league at deceiving umps and getting calls to go their way with just the slightest glove turn.
This wasn't just a Philip Humber kinda perfecto either where a guy just had his day and came out of nowhere. No, Pat Hoberg is consistently one of the best at calling balls and strikes in the game. This was just him painting his Mona Lisa on the biggest stage for everyone to see. You better know his name moving forward.
New plan for the future of the MLB strike zone: clone Pat Hoberg. Build the goddamn plane out of this beauty.
