Apparently Matthew Perry Hates Keanu Reeves And Wishes He Was Dead

The quotes that I use in this blog come from Sara Nathan of Page Six

I don’t pay THAT much attention to celebrity gossip. I pay attention to movie news, but it’s not important to me who is dating who in the world of celebrity news. The one thing I do know is that there might not be an actor in Hollywood with a higher approval rating as a person than Keanu Reeves. He’s renowned for being maybe the nicest guy in Hollywood.

But Matthew Perry, who starred in “Friends” and a million other TV shows that got canceled after 1 season, wrote in his soon-to-be-released memoir that he not only dislikes Keanu Reeves but resents the fact that he’s alive. This was his original quote

“Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”

Okay, that’s obviously a bizarre thing to put in a memoir, but Perry did go on to express his frustration toward the tragic death of his friend River Phoenix. People grieve differently, but Perry would go on to double down on his comments towards Reeves after talking about the death of his friend Chris Farley. After finding out that Farley had passed away from an overdose in 1997, this was his response.

“I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out,” he writes. “Keanu Reeves walks among us.”

I miss Chris Farley. We all miss Chris Farley. The guy was one of the funniest men ever and, in my opinion, a top 5 SNL cast member of all time. It’s incredibly sad that we never got a chance to see what he would’ve become as both a comedic and a dramatic actor. He is dearly missed, but at no point did I ever think to myself “God, if only Keanu Reeves was dead instead of him.”

As I was reading up on this, I initially thought Matthew Perry and Keanu Reeves worked together at some point and didn’t get along. You see that all the time in Hollywood. Shit, you see that all the time in life. Sometimes talented people don’t get along with each other. But as this Page Six article pointed out, Reeves and Perry have never done a movie together. They’ve never been on a TV show together, and they’ve never been in a fucking Colgate toothpaste commercial together. They’ve never worked together in any capacity. They seem to have very little connection to each other besides the fact that they’re both actors.

I’m aware of the fact that Matthew Perry has struggled a lot with addiction throughout his career, and I obviously wish him all the best, but the bitterness behind these statements is so strange. We can all agree that Keanu Reeves has had a few stinkers in his career (his performance in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Dracula” movie was rough). Still, he’s proven himself on many occasions to be a competent actor, and as I said earlier, he’s lauded for being maybe the nicest guy in Hollywood. Still, apparently Matthew Perry would prefer him dead. Bizarre story.
