Baseball Injuries Are Weird Part 5,349: Lance McCullers Had His ALCS Start Pushed Back To Game 4 Because He Hit His Elbow On A Champagne Bottle While Celebrating Beating Seattle In The ALDS

This is just how it goes in baseball, guys get hurt in the weirdest ways. I've documented them before but this one is up there. Lance McCullers Jr getting his elbow smoked by a champagne bottle in the postgame celebration after they beat the Mariners last week. It obviously isn't a huge thing but it pushed his start back from Game 3 to Game 4 so it's kinda significant.

It's just such a fluky injury. How do we never hear about this happening in the NBA or NFL? Maybe it's because baseball is the only sport where they celebrate like they won a title after each round?

Bob Nightengale said there was a cut but I don't believe anything he says so I'm sticking with just a swollen elbow for LMJ. Regardless, he's going to make the start in what could be a clinching game in Yankee Stadium. If he had a sense of humor, he would wear an elbow guard with the ski goggles for their eventual celebration when they beat the Yankees. Can't have that elbow banged up again before the World Series.

Also, how hard do you have to get hit with a champagne bottle to the point that your elbow swells up and hurts for days? Just add it to the laundry list of weird ass baseball injuries.
