Not A Joke: Universal Has Opted To Not Reboot The 90s Blockbuster "Twister" After All. Instead They're Gonna Go With A Sequel Called "Twisters"

ET - Get ready storm-chasers, there's a big one coming! ET can confirm Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have begun development on Twisters, a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Twister, which starred Helen Hunt and the late Bill Paxton as meteorologists in pursuit of an F5 tornado.

The Revenant's Mark L. Smith has signed on to write the screenplay for the sequel, with Jurassic World Dominion's Frank Marshall attached to produce through his Kennedy/Marshall Company. No director or casting information has yet been confirmed.

A couple of years ago Jeff Lowe blogged about Universal deciding the world needed a fresh and updated version of the blockbuster "Twister."

AKA their well of new ideas and originality was dry as a bone and they have no shame in beating horses to death.

Well, who would have thought that a reboot would actually be showing some sort of effort compared to really mailing it in by opting instead for a "sequel" and throwing a letter "S" on the end of the title? You can't make this shit up anymore.

I'm being dead serious when I ask what does it take to be a writer in Hollywood nowadays? If this is the kind of stuff that gets greenlit, the bar really can't be that high can it?

Are you telling me a wicked good writer like Francis, who also has a very weird brain, couldn't land a job making multi-millions to churn out the shit that goes through his head on a daily basis?

I think we can all expect this to be the most over-the-top natural disaster film since Sharknado 2

The big question I have is can we expect to see Helen Hunt in this one or not? Make no mistake, Helen Hunt was a low-key milf rocket back in her heyday.

If you disagree, you need to get your eyes checked. Even in Twister she was bringing the heat.

Something tells me a mailed-in sequel isn't going to lure her out of a comfortable retirement. But one can hope.
