Phillies Take Game 1 In Atlanta And Nick Castellanos Earned All Of His Contract In One Single Playoff Game

What more can you say? Well, a lot actually. But for a team that went from 22-29 to firing their manager to their reigning MVP hurt for most of the year to essentially backing into the last Wildcard spot with help of the Brewers to last weeks outright magic in St. Louis to the seemingly voodoo black magic today in Atlanta...we've got a goddamn ballclub, baby. We've got a ballclub.
This afternoon there were clutch hits up and down the lineup. Ranger and the bullpen did what they had to do to win (even though the Braves leaving 12 men on base thru the first 4 innings and Efflin making it WAY TOO close at the end was certainly not cute). But I'll tell ya what, for as much shit that Nick Castellanos has gotten this year, and some of it deservingly so, he earned every penny of his contract today and then some.
3-5 with a 2B and 3 RBI at the plate, but most importantly this little number in RF that essentially saved the game in the bottom of the 9th:
Did Putin set off a nuke or something? Did the Queen die? Again? Castellanos doesn't make that play in the field, like, EVER. And he somehow, someway pulled it off today when it matters most. Unreal stuff by Nick at the plate and in the field. Gameball most deservingly goes to the man for his performance (s/o Seranthony Dominguez and Alvarado for keeping it a 7-3 game, too - VERY underrated innings in the game).
And now the series favors the Phillies. Game 2 is tomorrow at 4pm during the day, as is the rest of the series. Why is that important. The Braves are confirmed Nightwlakers as they were 24-27 during day games this season. Actually somehow a huge difference. Even so, they're still a dangerous, great baseball team. Wheeler needs to Ace out on the bump and if the Phillies can really take 2-0 series lead...Wow. Just...wow.
