The Internet Debating If You Would Give Up A Guaranteed Title To Draft Victor Wembanyama Is Beyond Comprehension

As I've blogged before, I'm obsessed with Victor Wembanyama. That was even before his two game stint in Vegas this week where he confirmed why he's the top prospect on the planet. We've all seen the highlights by now.

But one of the things I've also enjoyed this week when it comes to Wembanyama is how he has the ability to make people completely lose their minds. The best example I saw of this was the tweet below

This sort of question is basically a basketball version of this

That question also made me think of an all time funny basketball poll from 2018

Did I vote Brad Stevens back in 2018? It's hard to say.

I'm not sure what's more insane, this title question or the fact that there were WAY too many responses saying they'd rather win the lottery and take Wembanyama over A GUARANTEED CHAMPIONSHIP. That usually is followed by the idea that you take Wembanyama and then win 4-5 titles, but that's not how shit works!

I'll admit, as someone who just watch his favorite basketball team fumble away a title about 4 months ago, those responses triggered me a little bit. That wound is still fresh. I'm also someone who has only seen one title with my own eyes despite being alive for 35 years so to me this isn't even a question. I don't care how good of a prospect Wembanyama is or how many titles he may help you win. If there's one thing we know in life it's that nothing is guaranteed. One generational talent does not equal multiple championships. All you have to do is look at history!

How many titles do the Cavs have after drafting LeBron? How many titles do the Magic have after all their #1 picks and generational talents? Or the Pelicans with AD/Zion? So much has to go right for you to win a title I can't understand anyone who would pass up a sure thing just because they wouldn't be able to draft a talent like Wembanyama. Given how talented the NBA is nowadays, you need more than one guy, even if that player is a basketball cheat code. Why else do you think superteams exist?

This just goes to show the power of a player like Wembanyama. He makes you lose your mind to the point where there are real life people saying they would pass up a guaranteed title in order to maybe win a title with him on their favorite team one day. That felt crazy to type and I fully understand how rare of a prospect he is. But I cannot and will not ever understand how someone could pass up a guaranteed title. Not to mention what if he doesn't even stay on your team long term!

In conclusion, I'll just let Herm Edwards take it from here
