"If I Was Never Born, I Think He Would Deserve The First Spot" - Victor Wembanyama Gave An All Time Quote When Talking About His Matchup With Top Prospect Scoot Henderson

In case you missed the announcement last month, there's a big time NBA Draft prospect matchup taking place this week in Vegas that starts tomorrow

It's the first time a bunch of people will be able to see these prospects live, and if you want a quick refresher as to who these two guys are, go ahead and click play

I think it's fair to say that either one of these prospects can change a franchise, and everything you hear about Wembanyama specifically talks about how he's a true generational talent.

So today when he was asked about the matchup with Scoot Henderson, Wembanyama gave an incredible answer

Who knows, maybe there was some stuff lost in translation there, but I'm choosing to pretend there wasn't. I LOVE that mentality. That's the exact energy I want to see from a prospect if I'm a GM who is prepared to pull off one of the greatest tanks in NBA history in order to bring him in. Even though I'm sure he intended this to come across as a compliment, it's about as backhanded as you can get. You just know the Thunder/Jazz/Spurs immediately picked up the phone and tried to pull off some additional trades to rid their roster of any sort of NBA talent after hearing that.

The crazy part is….he's not lying. If there was no Victor Wembanyama I'm sure Scoot Henderson would be the consensus #1 pick. The problem is Wemby does exist. He's real and he's spectacular

(pause for the obligatory Seinfeld clip)

OK back to Wembanyama. It's one thing to talk like this and not be a generational talent. You can look like a real asshole doing something like that. But when you are doing shit that shouldn't be possible for a player his size and you do it with relative ease, this comment comes across way better. Sure he now has a target on his back for the games this week, but that probably already was the case given how much hype surrounds this kid.

As I've blogged before, I am all for talking shit in sports. The world needs more of it frankly. As long as you can go out and back it up, I say go nuts. Now, a matchup that already had a ton of intrigue and hype has been taken up a few notches and when that happens, we all win.
