Bollywood Has Finally Made Their Answer To Forrest Gump

LAAL SINGH CHADDHA, a simple man whose extraordinary journey will fill you with love, warmth & happiness.

As a long time champion of Indian movies I feel I must be honest with you: This rocks. It falls under one of my favorite sub-genres of International cinema which is remakes of American movies. Here is one of my favorite examples, 'Josh'. It is a remake of 'West Side Story'. It stars Shah Rukh Khan who is essentially the Leonardo Di Caprio of Bollywood except he is way richer and more revered than Leo.

This movie, though, is already incredible for a few reasons. The first is that Forrest Gump is basically the definition of Americana. Every cell in its being represents America though the 20th century. The second is that Forrest Gump is a movie that is usually referenced when you talk about movies that couldn't be made today. Some Hollywood big-shot playing a character like Gump? That would go down in flames so quick your head would spin. However, this movie found a loophole…

Well, not really I guess. Nevertheless, I love the idea of every country making their own version of Gump. Here is a quick idea:

Σπαρτιάτικο Φόρεστ - The Greek/Spartan version set in 480 BC. Baby Gump gets thrown off a cliff by his mother right at the start of the movie. He later crawls out and becomes a valued "apprentice" to a Spartan soldier. Unlike his American counterpart, he cant run very well for some strange reason.

Make it happen, cinema world!
