Texas QB Quinn Ewers Is Reportedly Out 4-6 Weeks With An SC Sprain, So He MIGHT Play In The Red River Showdown

We all saw it yesterday. Texas had Alabama on the ropes in Austin, only to lose 20-19 as the offense sputtered in the red zone and lost an explosive element when Quinn Ewers got injured. You know that "laugh" reaction in the Facebook posts? It's the most condescending bullshit ever and it works me up even more than trolling commenters. When I blogged about Ewers starting and Texas being "back" or whatever, SO many laugh emojis. Peeved.
Well guess what fuckers? Quinn Ewers played like a consensus No. 1 recruit is supposed to, completing nine of 12 passes for 134 yards. There's a reason this dude skipped his final year of high school and went to Ohio State for a year. He's that good. Anyway, Big T covered the initial injury yesterday, as Crimson Tide defender Dallas Turner drove him into the unforgiving turf to cause the injury.
It really is frustrating as hell. SC stands for "sternoclavicular". Wild word. Anyway, here Ewers was ripping deep outs, connecting on downfield throws and making much better decisions and playing with much more composure than he had any right to under the circumstances. I had a feeling going into the game this could be shades of Johnny Manziel's breakout against Alabama once upon a time, despite JFF and Ewers' different playing styles. We were certainly headed that way before the Million Dollar Mullet left the field.
But the minor silver lining to all this? Ewers may be back for the epic rivalry game against Oklahoma. You can bet he'll do everything in his power to return to the gridiron by then. Steve Sarkisian is going to have his work cut out to scheme up an offense that helps out Hudson Card and keeps the Longhorns' ship afloat in the meantime. I'd say a healthy dose of Bijan Robinson is a great place to start.

Next up for Texas is an intrastate clash with UTSA, whose QB Frank Harris is no joke, and the Roadrunnners have had two psycho OT games to open their 2022 campaign. Then the Longhorns hit the road for Texas Tech and host West Virginia thereafter before the duel with the Sooners.
You definitely don't want to rush Ewers back. Still early in his career. At the same time, Arch Manning is coming in hot next year. You don't want to write this season off entirely after taking Bama down to the wire like that. The longer end of Ewers' timeline could see him return for an away game against Oklahoma State, which Texas could certainly use him for. Guess we'll just have to stay tuned and hope Ewers' recovery is speedy and full.
