Houston QB Goes AIRBORNE For The Win As Cougars Barely Escape Being The First Top-25 Upset In A Triple-OT Thriller Vs. UTSA!!

For all deserved shit talking that's annually done about preseason college football polls, we've yet to see a ranked team get knocked off by an underdog. After the close call earlier for 13th-ranked NC State against Eastern Carolina, it damn near happened when No. 24 Houston took on the upstart, in-state adversary UTSA Roadrunners and needed a third overtime to pull off the 37-35 victory.

Hell yeah. I love writing that mascot name. But Cardiac Coogs indeed — Houston did ultimately prevail.

UTSA isn't your average cupcake Conference USA opponent. They started last year 11-0 and ultimately finished 12-2. Dual-threat quarterback Frank Harris is still very much around and balling the fuck out thank you very much. Harris racked up 337 yards passing and three TDs along with a team-high 63 rushing yards on eight carries, including a 38-yard tuddy.

You wanna talk about being clutch and dropping dimes? Get a load of this from Harris to set the Roadrunners up for the OT-forcing field goal:

Or how about this 3rd and 8 scramble when UTSA had to have a TD, followed by the scamper in for the tying two-point conversion?

My man is putting the team on his back though. Like come on. Give it up for Frank Harris!!

I wanted to call out Harris before I get to his counterpart, Clayton Tune. We may already have ourselves one of the better "laying it all on the line for your team" moments by a quarterback of the college football season in Week 1. Tune went to the uppermost register of his athletic ability to sky into the end zone for the winning score:

Even more impressive? This was in the third overtime, where the NCAA decided to just have teams alternate two-point conversions until someone wins. Surely there has to be a better way. The wild thing about this is, Houston committed a false start penalty to push the ball back to the 8-yard line. From that spot, Tune had to scramble around and will his way across the goal line.

Pure madness. College football is indeed BACK, baby!!!!
