The Whipsnakes Are Well On Their Way To Becoming The Yankees Of Lacrosse
The PLL is currently in its 4th year of existence. In the first 3 years of the league, the Whipsnakes have won 2 championships and lost in the championship game last year. So they've played in all 3 final games so far, and heading into the playoffs this year they have a bye to the semifinals as the 1-seed.
Clearly they are a wagon. Clearly they are a dynasty. Clearly they are going to rack up a couple more titles with this core group of players because most of the guys on their roster are still just 26, 27, 28-years-old.
There's going to come a time when the well runs dry for the Whipsnakes. There will come a time when the tides turn and they go through a few shitty down years. It's only natural. What goes up must eventually come back down. But what the Whipsnakes are doing right now for their fans is building in that comfort blanket of championships for them to always fall back on as one of the premier organizations in the game.
50 years down the road there will be a Whipsnakes fan who may have never even seen the Whipsnakes win a championship since he's been alive. But he's been a Whipsnakes fan since he was 8-years-old and he can go to sleep peacefully with their 27 championships knowing that he'll never fuckin' wake up a goddamn Atlas fan. Sure, half of those championships came in '20s when there were only so many teams in the league. They'll say shit about playing against plumbers and all the other standard arguments against rings that have been won in the past. But rings are rings nevertheless, and the Whipsnakes are well on their way to getting a massive head start on the rest of the league.
