Aaron Rodgers Is On "A Whole Other Level" Compared To Patrick Mahomes According To A Wide Receiver That Has Played With Both

Aaron Rodgers is the reigning back-to-back MVP. He's also the current Quarterback for Wide Receiver, Sammy Watkins, who has surprisingly been a journeyman in the NFL despite being picked 4th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, ahead of more successful WRs like Mike Evans, Odell Beckham Jr., and Davante Adams. Watkins stint with the Packers will be his fifth team in nine years after a promising start with the Bills,

He was dealt to the Rams, then spent three seasons with the Chiefs that were middling during the regular season before exploding in the playoffs, then this past season in Baltimore, and has now landed in the NFC North with the Pack.

I don't think the differences between Rodgers and Mahomes are that wildly different. I had both in my Top 10 NFL Players of 2022. Both have almost unimaginable arm strength:

Both guys can put it on a Receiver with outstanding accuracy

And both can move, albeit in different ways.

I'd give Mahomes the advantage on his legs, but I'd also say Rodgers is a better decision maker with the ball as his INT numbers are always wildly low.

Stats the last four years paint a very similar picture. Mahomes has been wildly consistent accuracy-wise, always 66%, throws for way more yards, but also can get a little loose with the football. Rodgers has seen a big uptick in production the past two years due to better accuracy and more TDs while his INTs have stayed in the basement.

Now also consider the source, Sammy Watkins, despite trying to make a good impression on his new team/Quarterback, legitimately thinks he's an alien or at least a advanced reptilian.

It's hard to fully take him seriously based on that. Throw in the fact he hasn't played in an actual game with Rodgers and I think we have to take this with a grain of salt. But I don't think it's a crazy take. The two are very similar and I could even get behind the stance that Rodgers is playing better football right now than Mahomes had during Watkins duration in Kansas City.
