Tua Tagovailoa Has Something Big In Common With Ben Simmons

Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel sat down with Miami guy Dan Le Betard the other day and was asked his starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. McDaniel is of course going to be overly complimentary of a guy he needs to be successful, but something interesting from this clip is that McDaniel says that Tua is actually right handed.

"I mean the dude is right handed. You hear me? He's right handed and he throws lefty." - Mike McDaniel via The Dan Le Betard Show

The accuracy part of this is getting the most shine and it is a big statement. But how many quarterbacks throw with their non-dominant hand?? This reeks of Ben Simmons vibes. A guy whose jumper was so bad that many people, including his teammate at the time, JJ Redick, tried to tell him to shoot righty because he thinks he's right handed.

In some other reporting, Brian Windhorst, (the GOAT), suggested that Simmons does some other things in his life right handed.

"One of the things I've been told is on the table — hasn't been decided but is on the table — is examining whether he changes his dominant shooting hand from left to right," Windhorst said. "Now, that is a radical thing to do. He is ambidextrous. He does do some things in his life righthanded." - Windy

Now I do hope Tua has a better career than Ben Simmons has had. Miami certainly feels like an easier market to get away with things than Philadelphia. But the fact that Simmons did some things righty and Tua IS righty, but both shoot/throw with the other hand feels incredibly strange. Based on their off-season and they way they've drafted recently, Tua will have every chance to succeed this year. Here's hoping he does it.
